Not everyone needs hands-on care. Plenty of people are managing physically but should not be alone all day — because they are unsteady, because they forget, or because the isolation is doing its own damage.
A companion is there for the ordinary hours. Conversation, a card game, a walk, lunch made and actually eaten, the mail sorted. And someone who notices when something is off before it becomes an emergency.
Companion care is the least expensive service we offer and often the one that keeps somebody home the longest. It also tends to be the first step before more hands-on help is needed.
