Personal care at home

Personal care is the hands-on help someone needs to get through a day safely when doing it alone has stopped working. Getting out of bed. Into the shower. Dressed. To the bathroom in time.

Our caregivers are trained to do this work without making anyone feel like a patient in their own home. Dignity matters here as much as safety does — most people accepting help with bathing for the first time are embarrassed, and how a caregiver handles that first week decides whether the arrangement lasts.

What is included

• Bathing, showering and bed baths
• Dressing and grooming
• Toileting and incontinence care
• Transfers between bed, chair and wheelchair
• Walking and mobility assistance
• Repositioning to prevent pressure sores
• Skin and nail observation
• Medication reminders

Personal care usually starts after

• A fall, or several near-misses
• A hospital or rehab discharge
• A stroke, fracture or new diagnosis
• A spouse can no longer manage the lifting
• Bathing has quietly stopped happening

Care can be a couple of hours a day or around the clock, and hours move up or down as things change. A nurse reviews every care plan before care starts.
